AIC celebrates Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

Auckland International Campus celebrated Te Wiki o te Reo Māori | Māori Language Week last week with a lively programme of interactive activities that encouraged students to learn, participate and engage with te reo Māori throughout the week.

The celebration could be felt across campus, beginning with Kupu o te Rā, where students were encouraged to discover and use new Māori words and phrases, alongside Māori music played around campus.

One of the most popular activities of the week was the Te Reo Pub Quiz, which drew strong student participation and brought plenty of energy and friendly competition to Level 1. Students tested their growing knowledge of te reo Māori and Aotearoa, with prizes adding an extra element of excitement to the session.

Learning continued through Know Your Aotearoa, where students were introduced to pepeha and had the opportunity to actively create their own. The activity encouraged students not only to learn new concepts, but also to participate, ask questions and explore ways of making connections in an Aotearoa New Zealand context.

Across the week, students became increasingly familiar with Māori words, phrases and concepts, with many showing genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for learning a language that was new to them.

The week concluded on Friday with students and staff coming together to share kai, bringing the programme to a warm and fitting close.
