Research Director Dr Farhad Mehdipour and Information Technology Head of Department for domestic programmes, and Postgraduate Programme Manager for international programmes, Dr Naz Ebrahimi have co-led a series of workshops with lecturers from a range of subject areas at our Manukau campus.

Farhad says the workshops on AI-Resilient and Authentic Assessment Design look at how to design assessments that still measure learning in the age of AI.

They focused on a simple shift from assessing answers to assessing thinking, judgment, and application.

The emphasis has been on identifying vulnerabilities in assessment design, making improvements, and designing tasks where students still need to think (even when using AI).

“This is an evolving space, and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, but conversations like these are an important step forward,” says Farhad.

He says it had been a real pleasure collaborating on the project, and Naz had been instrumental in shaping both the direction and delivery of the sessions.

The pair will soon be extending the workshops to other Future Skills campuses.
