AIC welcomes new Future Skills students to campus
Auckland International Campus Academic Director Russell Harray welcomed new Future Skills students to AIC at Orientation this week, encouraging them to get involved in campus life and make the most of the opportunities ahead.
Russell said students had many study options and had made the right decision in choosing AIC, with its strong support available, positive student results, and hard-working staff. He described Auckland as a multicultural city and AIC as a diverse campus and encouraged students to bring their cultures and stories into the classroom as part of their learning.
He said AIC’s teaching approach might be different from what students were used to, with small classes and interactive learning through discussions, case studies, group work, and presentations.
Russell also outlined three key objectives for lecturers, including covering the course content, ensuring learning was useful and practical, and making sure students stayed involved and enjoyed the learning experience.
This week’s Orientation activities have included an IT induction covering topics such as student logins, Wi-Fi access, and student email. Students also attended an insurance presentation, an employability session on workplace rights and responsibilities in New Zealand, and an academic orientation where lecturers introduced each programme and answered student questions.
Earlier in the week, students also took part in a Life in New Zealand workshop, an Employability Services and Industry Engagement workshop, and an Academic Success Workshop to support their transition into study and life in Aotearoa New Zealand.
